Admission to Sojourner School is available to all North Clackamas School District students. The student-teacher ratio for Sojourner is the same as the ratio for all district elementary schools. Due to staffing levels and facility capacity, enrollment is limited to approximately one hundred eighty (180) students. In the event the number of applications exceeds capacity, admissions are determined by lottery.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Families and students seeking admission to Sojourner are expected to have a clear understanding of and a strong interest in its program. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to visit the School and also attend an Informational Meeting to learn more about Sojourner, its mission, programs, structures and the expectations of students and families, prior to submitting an application.
  2. Parents of potential students then submit an online application. The names of all students who have applied are entered into a database by grade level. Note: If you do not have internet access or need assistance with the application process, please call 503-353-5460.
  3. A selection process is used to draw names at random to fill vacant slots. The lottery drawing for Kindergarten admission and its wait list, as well as additions to the waiting list for grades First through Fifth (to be added behind prospective students already on the wait list), generally occurs after March 1st and prior to Spring Break.
  4. All families are notified soon after with letters of the lottery results.

Siblings and Multiple Children at Sojourner

In support of families, Kindergarten siblings of students currently attending Sojourner may be automatically enrolled in the program. When the youngest child leaves Sojourner, any additional future students must reapply for admission. Families with multiple children applying to one grade level are given the opportunity to enroll all of the children. However, if there is only space for one student, the family may decide to enroll one child and place the others in individual spots on the waiting list.

Visit the school website in January for the Visitation and Information Meeting dates for next year’s admissions.
